How the rupee rate is worked out
Take the AED per gram rate for your karat and multiply it by the AED to INR exchange rate. The dirham is pegged to the US dollar at 3.6725, so AED to INR moves exactly in line with USD to INR.
That peg means two things can move the rupee price: the world gold price and the rupee itself. When the rupee weakens, Dubai gold costs more in rupees even if the dirham price has not changed.
Your bank or exchange house will use its own rate, usually a little less favourable than the reference rate used here. On a large purchase, compare the rate you are offered with the one under the table.
Dubai versus Indian prices
India raised its import duty on gold from 6% to 15% on 13 May 2026. Indian prices with 3% GST now sit roughly 13% above Dubai prices with 5% VAT, before making charges.

Women can bring 40 grams of gold jewellery duty free and men 20 grams, if they have lived abroad for more than a year. Bars and coins attract duty from the first gram, and gold above the allowance is charged at 15%.
