About GoldRatesUAE
GoldRatesUAE is a UAE-focused reference for gold prices, the reference metal rate for
24K, 22K, 21K and 18K gold, converted transparently from international spot prices, plus
practical guides on buying, selling, VAT and making charges specific to the UAE market. We
built it because most gold-price pages in this market show you a number and stop there,
without telling you where that number came from, how old it is, or what it actually
represents once you walk into a shop.
The site is built and edited by an independent team; it is not affiliated with, and does
not represent itself as, any specific jewellery retailer, the Dubai Gold & Jewellery
Group, or any UAE government body. Every rate shown states its source and timestamp, and
every regulatory or tax claim links back to the primary source it came from rather than
being asserted on our own authority.
Why we exist
A gold-rate page looks simple from the outside, four numbers and a table, but the UAE
gold market has real complexity underneath it: an international spot price that moves
constantly, a currency peg that converts it to dirhams, a purity convention that makes 24K
mean 99.9% rather than a theoretical 100%, and then a layer of making charges, stone
values, promotions and VAT that a shared benchmark rate simply doesn’t capture. Most
sites in this space either ignore that complexity or paper over it with numbers they
can’t actually verify, a different “base rate” for every emirate, for
instance, dressed up to look like real local pricing when it’s really just a made-up
offset.
We’d rather do less and be honest about it. If we don’t have enough verified
local data to publish a real city premium figure, the page says so instead of guessing.
If our spot-price source is an interim bridge rather than a contracted provider, our
data sources page says that plainly. That’s a deliberate
trade-off: less polish upfront, in exchange for numbers you can actually trust once we do
show them.
What we publish
A UAE reference gold rate, per-karat and per-weight conversions (gram, tola and ounce),
city-specific retail premium data once enough verified local quotes exist to publish
honestly, calculators for making charges and VAT refunds, and practical guides on VAT,
hallmarking and buying or selling gold in the UAE. Arabic content is researched and written
independently for Arabic search behaviour and local terminology, it is not a translation
of the English pages, because Arabic-speaking and English-speaking searchers in this
market often ask genuinely different questions.
We also keep a hard separation between two kinds of numbers that other sites often blur
together: a reference rate, which is what our main tables and calculators
use, and a faster-moving live spot-derived figure that we label
explicitly and never present as an official retail price. See
our methodology for the exact formulas behind both.
Who is behind this
GoldRatesUAE is run by an independent team rather than a large publisher, which is a
trade-off worth being upfront about: we can move quickly and hold ourselves to a stricter
standard than a site juggling dozens of other properties, but we’re also building
this from scratch rather than inheriting years of accumulated trust. We’d rather earn
that the honest way, by being right, sourced, and correctable, than shortcut it with
vague claims of authority we haven’t demonstrated yet.
What we don’t do
We don’t sell gold, don’t take a cut of any transaction, and don’t invent a
different base gold price for each emirate. We don’t use fabricated “local
business” signals, no invented office address, no decorative phone number pretending
to be a shop. And we don’t publish a regulatory or tax claim without a primary source
behind it; where that source has an effective date or specific conditions, we say so rather
than simplifying it into something that reads cleanly but isn’t quite accurate. We also
don’t chase every possible keyword variant with a near-duplicate page, a page exists
because a search intent is genuinely distinct, not because a spreadsheet row said it should.
See our methodology page for exactly how figures are
calculated, our editorial policy for how content gets
researched and reviewed, and our accuracy changelog for
a public record of corrections, including the ones that aren’t flattering. Each of
those pages exists because we’d rather be checkable than simply trusted on our word,
and we’d rather you actually click through and check them.
This site is in active development. Rate data and page content are being built out in
stages, see the status badge on each rate page for whether a figure is live, placeholder,
or stale, and treat anything not yet indexed by search engines as work in progress rather
than a finished product.
